    THE FIRST BOOK OF HISTORY

The first book printed in our possession came from China and dates back to 868 and contains an ancient Buddhist prayer. The book was discovered in 1907 by archaeologist Hungarian Marc Aurel Stein in the Mogao Caves at Dunhuang in Gansu region of China. The method used to print this book was the woodcut. This method consists nell’incidere of wooden planks for then sporcarle of ink on paper and impressing upon in more identical copies. The book consists of seven separate sheets and glued together to form a roll. We must say, however, that in reality Stein am on the same site several other books but what this was known as bore the date of publication. Probably the other books were still the oldest but none of them impressed reported a precise date.
